Frequently Asked Questions
Mean is the arithmetic average (sum ÷ count). Median is the middle value when sorted. Mode is the most frequently occurring value. All three measure central tendency differently.
Use median when your data has outliers (very high or low values). For example, income data uses median because a few billionaires would skew the mean upward.
Simply add the percentages and divide by the count — but only if each percentage covers the same sample size. For different-sized groups, use a weighted average.
If no number appears more than once, the data set has no mode. If two numbers appear equally often, it is bimodal. Our calculator reports all modes.
